Hauptman Architecture is a full-service architecture and design firm based in Omaha, Nebraska. We bring thoughtful, design driven solutions to projects of all scales—interiors and exteriors, objects and environments. Our belief is simple: all spaces deserve good design.
We believe that meaningful design doesn’t just happen—it’s the result of a clear, collaborative process. The best ideas emerge when people come together to share, question, and imagine. Our design process is grounded in listening, dialogue, and a shared commitment to purpose. Every project begins with people and ends with a space that supports how they live, learn, work, and grow.
We design to enhance the human experience—creating places that have lasting impact on individuals and communities. Our process is adaptive, open, and iterative. We explore ideas, test possibilities, and refine to solutions—allowing space for discovery while always keeping the end goal in view.

Our process always starts with you.
ENGAGE
Architecture begins with a relationship — actively listening and asking thoughtful questions to uncover needs, goals, and constraints. We build trust to fully understand the project context. This is the foundation of our meaningful collaboration and ensures the design addresses real priorities.
ITERATE
Design is a process — exploring ideas through sketches and concept studies we test different approaches early and often. With each iteration we experiment, learn, and gather feedback before committing to a direction. This flexible mindset helps uncover unexpected solutions and produce the project vision.
DEVELOP
Transforming concept into reality — into a fully realized design, layering in detail, technical rigor, and coordination with consultants and stakeholders. At this stage, design becomes tangible through drawings and specifications. The vision becomes buildable and meets all requirements.
REFINE
Review, adjust, and polish — every element to align with project goals, functional needs, and aesthetic aspirations. Refinement ensures that even the smallest details reinforce the design intent and that the finished product feels intentional, cohesive, and timeless.

Principal
Rick is an award-winning architect with experience creating impactful spaces across diverse project types and scales. Blending design vision with technical expertise, he offers a personable, client-focused approach that delivers exceptional results. Known for his collaborative spirit and deep listening, Rick fosters trust and ensures every voice is heard—resulting in environments that function beautifully and reflect the identities and aspirations of those they serve.
Before launching Hauptman Architecture, Rick worked at several nationally recognized firms, including OPN Architects (Des Moines), Davis Partnership Architects (Denver), DLR Group, and Alley Poyner Macchietto Architecture (Omaha). From each chapter, he gained valuable experience in design excellence, project delivery, team collaboration, and client leadership — laying a strong foundation for the launch of his own practice.
With Hauptman Architecture, Rick aims to build a practice rooted in honesty, integrity, and design excellence—one that serves people and communities through thoughtful, responsive architecture. He believes in the power of design to elevate everyday experience and is committed to creating work that is both grounded and visionary.
Rick is a graduate of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he earned his Master of Architecture.
